Sections and voice parts

On this page
A section is a group of singers, such as the sopranos, with its own leader. A voice part is a line of the music, such as Soprano 1 or Soprano 2: the practice tracks of a song are attached to voice parts. Each member has one section and one voice part.
Who can do it
The Director and the Tenant Admin, in Manage › Sections and Manage › Voice Parts. Your choir may also have given this work to a role of its own. Every member can see the sections and voice parts.
How to
Set up the voice parts
- In Manage › Voice Parts, tap Add voice part: its name, its Sort order, and, if it splits from another part, its Parent voice part (Soprano 1 under Soprano, say).
- Leave Assignable to choristers on for the parts members sing. A part that isn't assignable is not offered when you set a member's voice part.
- Open a part to see its Sub-parts. A part can't sit under itself or under one of its own sub-parts.
- To remove a part, open it and choose Delete voice part in its menu. Members keep it until you give them another.
Set up the sections
- In Manage › Sections, tap Add section: its name (Sopranos, say), its Sort order and, if you know it, its Section leader.
- Place each member from their own page: in Manage › Choristers and Staff, open the member, then Membership › Edit, and pick their section and voice part. A section's page lists its members but doesn't change them.
- To remove a section, open it and choose Delete section in its menu. Members keep their section until you give them another, and the section's leader loses their leader role.
Name a section leader
- Open the section, tap Edit under Details and pick the Section leader. They get that section's Section Leader role at once, and the previous leader loses it.
- What the leader can publish for the section is in Publish for your section. What they may do with it afterwards is set in Manage › Settings › Section leader powers.
- Give these powers to more people opens the section's role in Manage › Roles, where a Tenant Admin adds the helpers. It shows only to someone who may give roles, so a Director doesn't see it: ask a Tenant Admin.
- To take the role from the named leader, change the leader here: it can't be removed in Roles.
Section leaders appear in the Community's Who's who when the Community is on.
