Who can do it
Every member chooses their own notifications. Nobody else can turn them on or off for you.
Notifications go to active members. While your status is a prospective one (such as Candidate), On leave, Alumni or Archived, the choir's notices don't reach you. Your director sets your status, and a new member starts as active unless a prospective one was picked for them. Members marked as staff get the announcements but not the notices for new events, articles and surveys or the rehearsal reminders.
How to
See your notifications
- Tap the bell at the top of Home. A dot marks the ones you haven't read.
- Tap one to open what it is about: the event, the article, the survey on Home, the chat.
- Tap Mark all read to clear the dots.
- If you sing in several choirs, each notification names its choir under its title, and opening one from another choir switches you to it first (see Sing in several choirs).
In your language
- Tounes writes its notifications in the Language you chose yourself in Settings › Appearance: English or French.
- Until you choose one there, or while it is set to System, they come in your choir's main language, even when the app itself shows another.
- What your choir wrote, such as an event's or a survey's name, shows in your language when the choir wrote it in yours, otherwise in the choir's main language.
- An announcement or a chat message arrives as its author wrote it.
What sends one
- New events: a new event for you (your whole choir, your section or one of your groups).
- Rehearsal reminders: "Are you coming?" ("Serez-vous là ?" in French), some hours before a rehearsal you haven't answered, or answered Maybe. Your choir chooses how long before.
- Announcements: a message from your director, or from your section or group leader.
- New articles and New surveys for you.
- Chat messages, where your choir uses chat. A muted channel stays silent, except when someone mentions you.
- Always sent, with no switch: an event postponed; an event cancelled or moved, if you have a ride or a room for it; news about your ride or your room; a score replaced after you marked it up. Section leaders are reminded to take attendance, and group leaders hear when someone joins or leaves their group. A privacy officer hears of each new privacy request, and the member who made it hears of the answer.
Choose which ones you get on your phone
- In the app, open the menu at the top of Home, then Settings.
- Turn on Push notifications. Your phone asks for permission once: allow it.
- Under From this choir, turn off what you don't want as banners: Chat messages, New events, Rehearsal reminders, Announcements, New articles, New surveys.
- These switches are per choir. If you sing in several choirs, switch choir and set them there too (see Sing in several choirs).
- A switched-off kind still lands under the bell. On iPhone, the app icon badge still counts it.
Not getting them?
- "Notifications are turned off for Tounes in your phone settings": allow them for Tounes in your phone's settings, then try the switch again.
- "This phone could not be set up for push yet": try again later.
- Signed out? Signing out stops notifications on that phone. Sign in again and, if they don't come back, turn Push notifications on again.
- Check your status with your director: only active members get the choir's notices.
On the web and in the apps
Banners on your phone, the push switch and the app icon badge exist only in the iPhone and Android apps. One phone gets the notifications of all your choirs. On the web, Tounes sends nothing outside the page: the bell is the only place to see them. Tounes sends no notification by email.
