Who can do it

The Director and the Tenant Admin set up and publish Places. Your choir may also have its own roles, under other names, that allow this. Places must also be switched on for your choir, in Manage › Settings › Features.

The editor needs a large screen: a computer, or an iPad held sideways. On a phone or a narrow window, the event's Places section says Open Places on a larger screen to edit them.

How to

Start the Places of an event

  1. In Manage › Events, open the event and find its Places section. Click Set Up Places.
  2. Choose where to start:
    • Start from the last Places at the event's venue, the last layout published there;
    • Start from another event, to pick any past event whose Places were published;
    • Start empty, a stage with only the conductor at front centre.

Place the singers

  1. The stage is drawn as the audience sees it, the front edge at the bottom. Choose its shape above it: Wide, Standard or Deep. Changing the shape keeps every position.
  2. On the left, Not placed yet lists the singers who answered yes or maybe, by voice part in your choir's order, with No voice part last. A singer who answered maybe carries a Maybe badge. Dots take their voice part's colour.
  3. Drag a singer from the list onto the stage. Drag a dot on the stage to move it. Snap to grid lines spots up on the grid; turn it off to place them freely.
  4. To place many at once, select singers: click them in the list or on the stage, or click a voice part's name to select the whole part. Then click Line, Staggered Line, Column or Arc. They are laid out in voice-part order, where the selected singers stood or in the middle of the stage, and you can drag each one from there.
  5. Conductor adds or removes the conductor's spot. Select one placed singer and click Soloist to mark their spot as a solo. Remove from Stage sends the selected singers back to the list.

Every change saves by itself as a draft: the editor shows Saving… then Saved, and the Draft badge stays until you publish. You can close the editor at any time.

Give a song its own Places

  1. Open the menu above the stage (it reads Every Song) and choose Add Places for a Song, then a song of the event's playlist. The song's Places start as a copy of the event's.
  2. Move singers as needed. A singer you remove from a song's Places is offstage for that song only.
  3. The same menu switches between the event's Places and each song's. A song taken off the playlist keeps its Places, marked Not on the setlist, and singers no longer see them. They show again if the song comes back.
  4. Delete These Places deletes the Places on show. Deleting the event's Places deletes every song's too; Tounes asks you to confirm.

Watch for changes in attendance

Above the list, Tounes flags each placed singer whose answer changed: {name} is no longer attending when they declined, and {name} hasn't confirmed when they answered maybe or not at all. A singer who declined leaves an empty spot on the stage. Nothing moves by itself: drop another singer on the empty spot to give it to them, or remove the spot.

Publish

  1. Click Publish. Singers see nothing until you do. After that, the button reads Republish, and your edits stay a draft until you republish.
  2. If the event hides its attendee list from members, Tounes warns you before the first publish: publishing shows every placed singer who stands where.
  3. Only the singers whose spot changed are notified: moved, sent offstage, or given or removed from a solo. On the first publish, every placed singer is.
