Track your practice

Who can do it
Every member, for themselves. There is nothing to switch on: Tounes records your practice while you play a song's tracks, and you rate your own confidence.
Your practice record is yours alone. No one else in the choir sees your name or your own figures. The director sees totals by section only, and none at all when fewer than three members of a section have a record for the song (see See who practised).
Practice tracking only works when your choir has it switched on, in Manage › Settings.
How to
Practise a song
- In Music, open a song and play one of its tracks. Every stretch of 30 seconds or more counts as a session.
- A session ends when you pause, change track or close the player. Anything shorter than 30 seconds is not saved.
- On the song, the My practice section shows your total time, your number of sessions and when you last practised.
- What you've heard shows the song from start to end: the darker a part, the more you played it. A passage you loop counts again each time round.
Rate your confidence
- Under How confident are you?, tap one to five stars. You can rate a song before you have even played it.
- Rate again after later sessions. Confidence history draws one dot per rated session, oldest first, so you see the song move up or down. Tap it to list Your sessions: when, how long and the rating.
- Tap Who can see this? to read, in the app, who sees your record.
- With a practice goal set, coming back to Tounes after practising with it in the background opens Your Session, where you rate the songs you just worked on (see Keep a practice streak).
See all your songs
- In Music, open My practice, in the Practice section after your homework.
- It lists every song you have listened to or rated, the ones that need the most work first: never rated, then the lowest rating, then the least time.
- Each row shows your rating and, under it, the rating before ("was 2/5"), your time and your sessions. Search the list by title.
- On Home, the homework panel uses the same record: how many songs of the next rehearsal you have started, and the one to Practise next.
- Before a concert, its countdown in the Practice section lists its songs the same way, under how many of them you rate 4 or 5. See Count down to a concert.
- To set a daily or weekly goal and keep a streak, see Keep a practice streak.
What Tounes keeps
- Once a song is in none of your active playlists (a permanent one, your own, or one of an event still to come), Tounes deletes its old sessions. Your totals and your rating stay.
On the web and in the apps
Practice counts the same way on the web and in the apps. In the apps you can play saved tracks without a connection: a session played offline is kept on your phone or tablet and sent once Tounes reaches the server again, or the next time you open Tounes. If a send fails, Tounes tries again later, and a session is never counted twice. A session waits for the choir you played it in: if you switch choirs, it is sent when you come back to that one. Sessions still waiting when you sign out are lost.
On the web, a session whose send fails waits in the open tab and is sent once Tounes reaches the server again. If you close or reload the tab, or switch choirs, first, it is lost.
In the app
Your own practice, song by song: the songs you have listened to or rated, the ones that need the most work first. Only you see this.
One song you practise: play its tracks, rate your confidence and see how it has moved from session to session.
