The home-screen widget

Who can do it

Every member who uses the Tounes app on an iPhone or an Android phone. You need no role, and you only ever see your own reply: the widget never shows another member's name or answer, so it is safe on a lock screen.

The widget works only when your choir has it switched on. When it is off, the widget just says Open Tounes to see your next event. The list of songs to practise also needs the choir's practice tracking.

How to

Add the widget

1. Open the Tounes app once and sign in, so the widget has something to show.
2. Add a widget the way your phone does it, usually by touching and holding an empty spot on the home screen, then choosing widgets. Look for Tounes: the widget is called Next event.
3. Place it. It shows your active choir's next event, its date and time, the venue when there is room, and your reply.

Reply from the widget

1. While replies are open, the widget shows two buttons: Attending and Not attending. Tap one. Your reply goes to the choir right away, and the button you chose is filled in.
2. Once replies are closed, the widget shows the answer you gave instead, Maybe included.
3. The widget changes only your answer. Guests you set in the app stay while you're attending, and a reason you gave stays while you're not attending.
4. To add guests or a reason, or to answer Maybe, reply in the app (see Calendar and replies).

Open the app from it

1. Tap the event to open it in Tounes.
2. Tap To practise to open the homework playlist for the next rehearsal.
3. With no upcoming event, the widget says No upcoming event; tapping it opens Home.

Follow your practice goal

1. Once you have set a practice goal in Tounes (see Keep a practice streak), add the second Tounes widget, called Practice goal.
2. With a daily goal, it shows the minutes left today, such as 3 min left today, or Today's goal reached, and your streak.
3. With a weekly goal, it shows your practice days this week, such as 2 of 3 days this week, the minutes left today, and your streak in weeks.
4. At midnight in your choir's time zone, the widget starts the day again; a weekly goal starts again on Monday. The minutes you practise show once the app has recorded them.
5. Tap it to open My practice in Tounes. Without a goal, it says Set a practice goal in Tounes. It also needs your choir's practice streaks.

Keep it current

1. The widget follows what the app last loaded. It updates each time Home loads and each time you reply in the app.
2. If it looks out of date, open Tounes: Home reloads and the widget catches up.
3. It shows the choir you're in right now. Sing in several choirs? Switch choir in the app and the widget follows (see Sing in several choirs).
4. Signing out of the app empties the widget.

On the web and in the apps

There is no widget on the web: it lives in the iPhone and Android apps only.

• iPhone: needs iOS 17 or later. On the home screen, the small size shows the event and the reply buttons; the medium size adds up to three songs To practise. On the lock screen, the rectangular size shows the event, its time and your reply; the one-line size shows the event and its time.
• Android: a home-screen widget with the event, the reply buttons and, under them, up to two songs To practise. There is no lock-screen widget on Android.
• Practice goal: on iPhone, a small home-screen size and the two lock-screen sizes; on Android, a home-screen widget, which can take up to 30 minutes after midnight to start the day again.
